They may also have long debates on the Digital India Bill alongside the budget. The bill may include rules for videos on social media.

During the choices, a deepfake of Amit Shah went viral on April 27. Shah held a press conference in Guwahati, Assam. He explained the differences between the fake and real videos. To check deepfakes, the government had formulated new rules in January. According to these rules, India could ban any social media platform that breaks them. The term “deepfake” was first used in 2017 on Reddit. It involved posting fake videos of celebrities under a fake ID.

These included pornographic videos of actresses Emma Watson, Gal Gadot, and Scarlett Johansson. Deepfake refers to fitting someone else’s face onto real video, print, or audio. It uses technology and software to make similar videos and audio. To help deepfakes, the Central IT Ministry had prepared new rules. They did this before the choices in January. According to these rules, any social media platform that violates them could face a ban in India.

Deepfake refers to putting someone else’s face, voice, and expressions onto real videos, prints, or audio. It’s executed with remarkable authenticity. It looks real. It even fools observers. Machine literacy and artificial intelligence play a key part in creating deepfakes. They use tech and software to manipulate video and audio.

Introducing it in Parliament before the choices appears doubtful.

The IT Ministry had said that it held two meetings on January 17. They were between social media platforms and other stakeholders. Social media platforms decided to use AI to detect deepfake content. Those uploading deepfake content will face cases under IPC sections and the IT Act. Upon chancing deepfake content, anyone can file an FIR. The victim and their appointed person will also have the right to file a case.

Social media platforms will ask users to pledge not to upload deepfake content. Platforms will warn their users about this matter. Users can pierce their accounts only after concurrence. You must remove deepfake content within 24 hours. One platform tells another about the account’s check. The indicted can’t open an account there.
